Anticipating Baby's Arrival and Inspiration in Motherhood

I came across this video of one of the first times Owen held Alex, and it made me cry. I love my little boys and I can't wait for them to meet their baby sister!

Speaking of baby, no changes to report! Still not dilated, so it looks as if Monday will be the big day. They did an ultrasound to see how much she weighs (approximately... since ultrasound estimates can be up to a pound off) and they said she was 8 lbs. 3 oz.. which means she is probably more like 7 1/2 pounds (3.4 kg for all you Brasileiros). I could actually see a layer of fat around her abdomen! Too funny...

We will be updating facebook and this blog with pictures and videos within hours of her arrival, so if you are interested, just check back here Monday night with updates.

Here are some recent pictures of my adorable boys...

Doesn't Owen look so big here? He scored 2 goals during this game!

On a slightly different note, I thought I'd share a story about inspiration in motherhood.

About a month and a half ago, Bruno and I were talking one evening about how skinny little Alex was. Like, the kid had only gained a few pounds in a year. He has been growing taller, so our pediatrician wasn't too concerned. I was though... I had been concerned for over a year, because between the ages of 9 months and 15 months he didn't gain anything! SO different than how Owen was. Not only that, Alex was a strangely picky eater. Not your normal picky though. For example, he would only eat very small amounts throughout the day and would refuse things like meat or bread, but loved (and still does) to eat asparagus, carrots, salad, broccoli, apples, cucumbers, and tons of other veggies that most toddlers don't like. Since his increasing skinniness had been worrying me for over a year, I had started to try to just accept the fact that he was a picky eater and skinny.

Except I had to keep trying to convince myself of this because something didn't feel right about letting it go. So that night, when Bruno and I were talking about it, I started to think about about how chubby he was when he was 0-6 months. Then the inspiration hit me. He had been on acid reflux medicine for the first 6 months of life! He was diagnosed with acid reflux when he was 6 weeks and I stopped giving it to him at 6 months when he started solid foods and didn't seem to be spitting up anymore. I felt that familiar reassuring calm of the Holy Ghost when the thought came, "He still has acid reflux."

So the next day, I called his pediatrician, explained to him what I thought. He immediately called in a prescription for prevacid and we started on it that day.

Fast forward to now... Alex has gained 3 pounds in the past month!! He eats regular meals, sleeps better at night, is occasionally still picky, but for the most part eats really well. And his tummy looks rounder, his bum- chubbier, his thighs- meatier!

I'm so glad I have my Father in Heaven, who knows my boys better than I do, on my side, helping me out, when I need it most!
