A trip to Historic Nauvoo, IL

For the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Nauvoo, Illinois is a sacred place in history. It is the last place where the Prophet of the Restoration, Joseph Smith, lived. He was innocent, yet through conspiracy was imprisoned just 20 or so miles away, in Carthage Jail, and where he was shot and killed. Nauvoo is also home to a rebuilt temple, one of the first in our church's history. It is also the start of the Mormon Pioneer Trail, as the Saints left their homes and farms to head west to Salt Lake City, which was not part of the United States at the time.

Bruno's Vovó was converted to the LDS faith 50 years ago when the Church was just beginning to grow within Brazil. It has always been her dream to visit Nauvoo and the last weekend in July that dream was realized!

In front of the Nauvoo Temple on a beautiful day!

My boys being silly. I just LOVE Owen in this picture:)

The famous Nauvoo Pageant (this was the very end)!

Owen on the bridge over the Mississippi River!!

At the Scovil Bakery.

An example of the type of wagon that was loaded up and had to be floated across the River:

We went to Carthage, IL and saw the actual door where bullets penetrated and killed Hyrum, Joseph Smith's older brother, just before they killed Joseph.

Besides being an extremely awesome place to visit if you are Mormon, it is also an incredible example of historically restored homes and buildings!

Check out what I believe, here.
